Me at first: Seems doable, I think I coud play this 2:40 Nope, I'm out
Wonderful
Heil alkan
❤❤
Ashkenazy’s sensibility in his playing is so clear….as clear as _his_ voice when he plays. He said he wanted to be a [clean!] window to the composer’s intent when playing, and for me he succeeds so beautifully. I just love the way he plays….intellect so seamlessly blended with emotion.
This is just so genius, just the way how Medtner works with the main theme is so clever!
Bravo 💐💐💐
Зачем так гнать????Это же песня!!!
The greatest sonata of all times!
This is the most underrated skazka, i love this one. But Medtner's interpretation is much better!
This os banger 🗿. Medtner is genius!
This was uploaded on Sorabji’s birthday
This is sooooo good, but you really need the context of the other 7 pieces, especially the sonata, so that the "quasi coda" will shine in the brightest lights somewhere in heaven!
I like about Medtner so very much that he is always seriously concerned about not giving too much even in the greatest pathos and in the softest teneramente, form is so well-thought, i cant complain. The liberated dreamy parts are of very short beauty, a philosophy which speaks deeply to my heart.
Love it made me cry😢❤❤❤❤

A poor Rachmaninoff.
What exactly is that chord at the end? Something A major, but my brain rebels on specifics.
I don't know how many times I've heard
Alkan dons JSB's perruque, with delightful results.
Whew! My wrists ache just listening to Alkan's manic take on the myriad studies in C major that were churned out for amateurs up to this time and beyond. (Chopin and Liszt excepted).
Around half a century a century ago, a classmate of mine who was also interested in Alkan brought Ronald Smith's recording of this piece to a Music Lit class in University. The professor (who was an ardent Brahmsian and wrote his dissertation on Joseph Joachim) allowed him to put it on. After a few seconds he shouted "trash"! Such was the reception Alkan not infrequently received back in those days. It brings to mind the classic movie scenes of Ben Hur racing his chariot around the Hippodrome. Brava Ms. McCallum!
Nearly sixty years ago I bought Raymond Lewenthal's edition (for $3.00!) of a number of Alkan's works, including this piece. Trying it out, my student hands squirmed around in an unsuccessful attempt to negotiate its tortuous stretches and finger subtitutions. The light dawned when I picked up Lewenthal's (second) Alkan LP in 1971, which included it. "Chapeau bas" to anyone who can play it well!
8:09 F# minor, the best possible key to describe death. F# minor is the coldest key (actually, its colour is blue), and after the death, humans become cold.
흠..좋다…ㅎㅋ 음 자체가 아름다운..
This sounds rather similar to Burgmuller's op.105 no.9 - the 2 geniuses must of appreciated each other!
Beautifull as always from Medtner!
Not using B flat, Actually a minor etude 🤔
F Lydian
Why didn't Liszt compose G major transcendental etude? 🤔
All of Liszt's transcendental etudes are in flat keys
The part at 0:22 sounds Locrian
This genial piece moves me to tears. Extraordinary!
❤
Feels like two lovers taking cover of the drizzling rain under a tree on a dreamy afternoon.
男がギターを弾き、女が歌い始め、途中から男も加わります。 我々は彼らの恋路を邪魔せぬよう見守っていましょう😊
Something about the chords and melody at 1:03 feels so undeniably French. I can't put my finger on it
I would guess Bartok knew this piece :) Curious and interesting piece (but less subtle then Beethoven op. 132, 3rd mvt...)
This is such a deceptive piece. Its calm and idyllic scene hides torturously difficult challenges.
Quite fun to have B flat in the key signature and then accidental B natural everywhere :)
The dark insistence of that repeated downward chromatic motif reminds me oddly of Alkan, although the overall character is still peculiarly Medtnerian. And as already pointed out in the comments, it does sound a lot like Chopin in some parts. This is one of my favorite pieces by Medtner.
I read that this piece made Rachmaninov cry. Understandably, I would add.

Que hermoso y que poético
Those opening chords just have me hooked. Wtf is going on there? What does it mean?
That's an awful time signature but I'd bet afterwards octaves would never be a problem
It's amazing time signature . I've never seen 10/16
Chopin Mazurka Op. 56 No. 2 :D
